Who We Are

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans organization. A community-service organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members -- men and women -- in nearly 15,000 American Legion Posts worldwide. The American Legion, 5th District, proudly serves the veterans, their families and the community in the Dallas County, Texas area.

Fifth District Mission

The American Legion strives to promote a better understanding of the principles of democracy and to inculcate among all people a higher appreciation of the benefits of American citizenship. To serve the needs of all veterans and their families. To fulfill our commitment to community, state, and nation.

To achieve our commitments to the community, state, and nation, we have programs at the local level to assist and educate the veteran and his family.  Some of the programs are:

·        Just Say No to Drugs

·        Flag education

·        Service at the Veterans Hospital

·        Boys State Program

·        Boy Scouts

·        Oratorical Contest (Scholarship Program)

·        And many, many more
