5th DISTRICT & DALLAS STARS EVENT - March 10, 2012
The 5th District has been working with the Dallas Stars hockey club to assist the Legion Family in recruiting new members. They are providing us with Group Rates for a game between the Dallas Stars and the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 7:00 PM. This also happens to be Veterans Night for the Dallas Stars, so there will be many veterans and their wives/husbands and children attending. This will provide an excellent opportunity to recruit members into the Legion Families across the DFW metroplex and surrounding areas. If 100 tickets are purchased (make that 98 since I have purchased mine) by March 10, the Dallas Stars will provide the American Legion a table inside the American Airlines Center for the purpose of recruiting members.
Go to www.dallasstars.com/americanlegion and use the promo code "stars" to start your purchase. A person can purchase up to 9 tickets and is open to your friends and family as well. Just ensure they use the link above and the promo code or the American Legion will not get credit for the purchase. You will also need to register with the Stars during the purchase process. Ticket prices will be $15 or $45 depending on where you want to sit. The $15 seats are in the sections 301-334 (nosebleed). The $45 seats are in the lower bowl in sections 101-105, 109-116 and 120-124. See seating chart at http://stars.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=39237. Remember, the earlier you purchase, the better your seats will be.

* On the second Saturday of each month, ALA Unit 504 in Mesquite hosts an All You Can Eat Breakfast starting at 9 AM for $6. Contact Cheryl Rodrigues 972-522-8093.
* On Saturdays from 8:00 pm - Midnite, Love Field Post 453 has Karaoke by Sherry.
* On Sundays, Post 453 serves breakfast from 10 am to noon. Usually Omelets, Eggs to order, Hash Browns, Sausage or Bacon, Biscuits and Gravy although this can vary slightly. Breakfast is a donation of $5 with Juice or Milk available for an extra dollar per glass. The Breakfast is also cooked in rotation by one of the Legion family group. The Canteen is open during Breakfast for those who purchase a breakfast.
* On the second Sunday of each month, ALR Chapter 453 greets the Troops at DFW airport. They meet at the Irving Elks Lodge at 2015 N. Britain Rd. in Irving at 9:00 am and ride to the Airport.
* On the second Sunday of each month, ALR Chapter 424 in Duncanville hosts a breakfast. The monthly ALR meeting is held immediately after the breakfast. The breakfast starts at 10:00 am and costs $5.00 per plate.
* On Wednesdays beginning at 2:00 pm, Post 424 hosts Happy Hour and pool games. See flyer.
* On Wednesdays from 7:30 - 9:00 pm, Post 424 is having free Dance Classes. Currently, the classes are for Country dancing.
* On Thursdays starting at 7:30 pm, Post 81 has a Shuffleboard Tournament. Entry fee is $5.25.
* On Fridays from 8:00 pm - Midnite, Post 81 has Karaoke with Heart & Soul.
* On Fridays from 7:00 pm - Midnite, Post 424 has Texas Holdem Poker. Call Post 424 for details.
* On Fridays from 8:00 pm - Midnite, Post 453 has entertainment. Call Post 453 for details.
* On Fridays starting about 6-6:30 pm, Post 453 serves dinner. The menu is determined by Legion Family group cooking each week. We rotate through all for of the Legion family Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and Legion Riders. Donations vary from $8 to $12 per meal. Call Post 453 for details. 1st Division Oratorical Contest will be held at the Denton County Courthouse on the Square starting at 2:00 pm. Team members and contestants are requested to arrive no later than 1:00 pm.

The 5th District teams with the Dallas Stars for a Veterans Appreciation Night to watch the Dallas Stars hockey team take on the Anaheim Ducks at 7:00 pm. This is a recruiting effort since many veterans will be attending the game. We need to sell 100 tickets to be able to place a recruiting table inside the American Airlines Center. Details elsewhere on this page.
